List of Characteristics for Good Language Learners

Researchers (Naiman et al., 1978; Rubin, 1975; Rubin & Thompson, 1982) indicated that good language learners would

    • find their own way, taking charge of their learning.
      好的語言學習者尋找自己的方式,掌握學習
    • organize information about language and look for patterns.
      組織整理有關語言的訊息並找尋其規則。
    • are creative, developing a "feel" for the language by experiencing with its grammar and words.
      有創意,藉由試用文法和字彙建立對語言的感覺
    • make their own opportunities for practice in using the language inside and outside the classroom.
      在課內課外製造機會練習語言。
    • learn to live with uncertainty by not getting flustered and by continuing to talk or listen without understanding every word.

    • use mnemonics and other memory strategies to recall what has been learned.

    • are willing to make mistakes in order to learn or communicate.

Some of the above characteristics are based on the collective observations of teachers and learners themselves rather than on empirical findings. Therefore, do not assume that all successful learners exhibit all of these characteristics.
