Setting a SMART Objective

SMART is:

S pecific ( 明確的 )
M easurable ( 可以測量的 )
A ttainable ( 可以做的到的 )
R ealistic ( 實際的 )
T imed-limited ( 有時限的 )

Two questions

  1. What kind of outcome do I want? ( 我想要的成果是什麼 ?)
  2. How do I know whether I have achieved the objective? ( 我如何知道是否達成目標 ?)
Examples of smart objectives/goals
  • Make a 5-minute oral presentation in English without looking at the script on October 12, 2012.
  • Complete all required online reading and listening assignments of the first session by midterm exams (11/08).
  • Understand 70% of the content of the CNN news after two listening by June 6, 2013.
  • More examples can be found in your self-set assignments suggested in the action plans.
Note for SLA students
Make sure that your goal is realistic (consider the time constraint--only about 10 weeks, and you may have reports and exams for other courses during the period) and that your plan is specific (what, how, with whom, and when you are going to do)
